Stephen Anderson - Classical Guitarist

Stephen Anderson is an experienced classical guitar performer who would be delighted to provide you with the perfect background music on his classical guitar. He plays a large variety of music including classical, rock/pop instrumental arrangements, jazz, Spanish and Irish music. EXPERIENCE Stephen has been performing as a guitarist in numerous settings since 1993 including rock and jazz bands as well as various classical ensembles and as a solo performer. He has been playing at weddings, restaurants, and private functions for over two decades. He also performed as a soloist with the Kwa-Zulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra. Stephen draws from his years of performance experience while working with you to ensure that the music he performs will be precisely what is needed to provide the perfect atmosphere for your event. EDUCATION In 1994, Stephen studied jazz guitar at Natal Technicon. In 1999 he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from the University of Natal, Durban, majoring in classical guitar performance and was the winner of the University of Natal Classical Performance competition, 1997. He later completed a Master of Music degree cum laude in Intercultural Music Education. Teachers include Demi Fernandez, Syd Kitchen, Leandros Stavrou, Steve Newman, and Fritz Buss. EQUIPMENT It's not enough to have great music performed by a talented musician; only the best instrument and amplification equipment can allow for the music to reach it's potential. Stephen plays a lattice-braced concert classical guitar with a cedar soundboard and Indian rosewood back and sides. He designed and hand-crafted this guitar himself, inspired by the classic 1960s Ramirez 1a and the modern Greg Smallman guitars. It was hailed by the UK-chart-topping guitarist Craig Ogden as "phenomenally accomplished". It produces a warm, crisp, and clear tone across the full harmonic range. For smaller venues like a home dinner party, Stephen can play purely acoustically and where amplification is required, he uses a Godin Multiac Grand Concert Duet Ambiance guitar through his Fishman Loudbox acoustic guitar amplifier. A PA system can be provided for larger venues.
