For Dorothy, playing the harp is about sharing her magic with the world. ♡ As a natural introvert, Dorothy has found that her gift of music expresses the language of the soul. Through the timeless art of live harp playing, she shares with the world a deeply heartfelt and authentic message that resonates with audiences from all walks of life. She has had the privilege of transforming celebratory moments into extraordinary events, and honoring those we have lost with soothing music to illuminate the dark times. After marrying the love of her life, Dorothy had the unique opportunity to view weddings from a bride’s perspective. Through this lens, Dorothy gleaned a whole new appreciation for the delicacy of each and every wedding detail. A pillar of strength and support during her clients’ most important moments, Dorothy believes that the meaning of life is to show up for others as your best and truest self. As an intuitive and sensitive person, she loves to collaborate with couples to curate bespoke wedding playlists that share their authentic story. Nothing makes her heart flutter quite like the moment her music accompanies a bride walking down the aisle. ♡ A sought-after musician, Dorothy’s expansive career as a classically trained harpist has granted her opportunities to play in solo and orchestral performances around the world. Dorothy’s orchestral experiences include playing with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong SAR Symphony Orchestra and numerous youth orchestras. Dorothy has also performed solo and chamber music at music festivals in the United Kingdom, Italy, the Cezch Republic, Hong Kong, Sweden, and China. In 2022, Dorothy was awarded an absolute first prize at the UK International Music Competition (Contemporary Music Category). With an exceptional command of different genres, Dorothy has recorded classical, pop and contemporary music for TV shows, video creators and events. Notably, her solo harp playing has been recorded for an Italian drama series under Digital Records Italy. For over a decade, Dorothy's greatest passion has been working with couples to create memories that will last a lifetime through her bespoke wedding harp performances. She is also the former resident harpist at the prestigious Shangri-La Hotel. Along with performing, Dorothy holds a busy teaching schedule since graduation. She has over a decade of experience coaching and preparing her students for performances, auditions, competitions, orchestral projects and examinations. Specializing in harp performance, Dorothy earned her music degree from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic, as well as her Associate (ATCL) and Licentiate (LTCL) from Trinity College London. A gentle soul, Dorothy carries in her heart a profound reverence for the small beautiful things in life — the weight and feel of a paperback book, the warmth of the sun and the breeze of wind on her skin. Born and bred in Hong Kong, Dorothy is bilingual in English and Cantonese and currently lives in London with her newlywed husband. She is also a certified florist, calligrapher, and self-proclaimed cat addict.

FAQ

Q: How long does setup take? A: I will arrive 45-60 minutes prior to the event to set up and tune my harp.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: The harp is a very delicate instrument, and is therefore highly sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. Please see below for specific requirements: - Outdoor events If you are planning an outdoor event, be sure to have a backup plan in case of rain or snow as harps should not be played outside during winter. Additionally, please have a plan in place for shade or shelter to protect the harp from direct sunlight. - Easily accessible performance space There should be a flat and hard surface for the harp and harpist. My harp is 185 cm and weighs 90 pounds. For this reason, a step-free or accessible lift to the performance space is highly preferable. If there are stairs to reach the venue and the performance space, please be sure to let me know prior to booking.
Q: Do you take requests? A: Yes! I typically take up to 3 songs requests per wedding which covers the amount of music in a ceremony. Extra requests may be subject to a separate quotation.
