Hello, my name is Rory, and I am the creator of Funky Doodles, a caricature artist and illustrator based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I have had a passion for drawing since I was young, from sketching cartoons of my teachers in school to doodling on napkins in restaurants. Despite officially starting my caricature business in 2018, my love for art has always been a constant in my life. I now get to make a living with my pen and paper, by creating fun, individual and personalised portraits of the people I meet at weddings, corporate events, parties and birthday celebrations. Live Caricature is the perfect addition to an event like a wedding, party of corporate event. It helps to break the ice among guests, it adds a sense of fun to the event, guests love comparing their portraits with each other/sharing them on social media, and best of all, they get to take home a personalised drawing as a fun reminder of the day.

What to expect

After we sort out the details regarding booking, times, etc - I will arrive at your event with my easel and chairs. Sometimes guests are a bit nervous at first, but as soon as the first one comes for a portrait, everyone wants one. It takes about 4 minutes to draw each person, so I can draw portraits for a lot of guests within a 2-3 hour period. The organiser of the event pays me directly, so its free for every guest to get their portrait done. By their nature, caricature portraits exaggerate the subject's features, but every caricature is done in a flattering style - it's done for fun, not to make anyone self-conscious or embarrassed. I've been doing this for years, and I've had nothing but flawlessly positive feedback.

Not only have I entertained at countless events over the years, I have also been featured in many local newspapers, such as Belfast Live: https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/co-down-caricature-artist-penning-25342964 My work has been used by various celebrities, such as the former Man City footballer and now Sky Sports pundit, Micah Richards. I appeared as a caricature artist in the final episode of Derry Girls on Channel 4, watched live by over 1.2 million people.

FAQ

Q: How long does setup take? A: I can be ready to draw very soon after arrival. I will just check where I can setup my easel, and decide where it would work best for guests. It is an interactive experience so you want guests to be able to see other guests being drawn. But I can get to work very quickly with minimal setup time.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: A small area about 2 metres square. Enough room for an easel and three small chairs, that's it.
Q: Do you take requests? A: Of course!
