James Fortune, called “the BEST comedy magician in Surrey”, has been performing magic ever since he was given a David Nixon Magic Set when he was 8 years old.
He bored his parents and anyone else who would watch him until his mother said, dotingly, “let’s do something else now dear”.
Rugby and other diversions replaced this hobby in his teenage years but he took it up again in his 20’s and joined the world famous Magic Circle.
He continued his career as a director and writer in films, television and theatre while slowly learning his magical craft until his mentor, the famous Ali Bongo, suggested he was ready to start entertaining the public.
Ever since then James has performed his comedy cabaret and parlour shows and funny but mystifying close up magic to audiences around the world including in Las Vegas and New York.
Today he is a full time professional magician and has performed at The House of Lords, Windsor Castle, Wilton House (stately home of the Earl of Pembroke), The Dorchester, Claridges and many other international and prestigious venues.
His career has stretched over a period of thirty years and he has performed for both stars and Royalty.
It was a great honour some years ago when Alan Shaxon, the then President of The Magic Circle, personally awarded James with the highest honour of M.I.M.C. (“Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star”) There are only 300 Members at this level throughout the world.
James has won many awards for his magic including three times as the Surrey Close Up Magic Champion and once as the Surrey Stage/Cabaret Magic Champion which is why he has been described as “the Best Comedy Magician in the SE”.
He is also an author and an award-winning theatre director.
James has three children, four cats and a bunny rabbit named “Nibbles”.
