Joie de Vivre is a French retro and jazz band playing music from the classic French chansons songbook. We cover the great classics from the 1930's and 1940's from Charles Trenet, Edith Piaf, Yves Montand through the 60's classics from Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot up to the the modern master songwriters of Brel, Bruel, Legrand and Ferri. The French have always known how to write a good song. Their classic chansons from the great artists such as Charles Trenet, Charles Aznavour, Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf are full of love, powerful emotions and heart-wrenching stories. Joie de Vivre has lovingly crafted a set of some of the greatest chansons of all time. Featuring the vocals of French singer, Muriele and supported by experienced jazz pianist, Dominic Beeton, Joie de Vivre play the great classics of Edith Piaf such as La Vie en Rose, L'Accordeoniste, Mon Amant de St Jean, Padam Padam, Je Ne Regrette Rien. They have selected the finest songs from the French songbook including Jacque Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas, Trenet's "Que est-ce q'on attend pour etre heureux". They play "Zou Bisou Bisou" made world famous by the American TV series Mad Men. There are slow powerful ballads like Leo Ferri's "Avec Le Temps" and foot tapping swing tunes like "Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler". When you book Joie de Vivre expect to be moved to tears and expect to be entertained to your heart's content. You can dance, sing but above all this is music that needs to heard and felt.

What to expect

Expect to want to dance, to tap your toes. to be romanced, to be entranced. Expect to be caught up in the sheer nostalgia and glamour of the era of Paris in the 1930's and 1940's as well as hearing some of the most romantic songs in the world. We regularly have folks just get up and dance the night away as this music is seriously infectious.

Q: How long does setup take? A: We set up in about 30 to 40 minutes depending on loading times and stage size.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: As a duo we can fit in very compact areas indeed. The full quartet and quintet will need the usual space for a band. We need 2 power points for full band.
Q: Do you take requests? A: We cover most of the French repertoire so do ask for your favourite song as it is likely we can play it.
