Violin and laptop means very quick set-up time. I have my own mic and amplifier which can act as a pre-amp with a line out to the mixing desk. A normal gig comprises two 45 min sets with a 15min break.
Conceived and nurtured in the modern day Bohemia of the Melbourne cultural underground, Jude The Obskure is a bold experiment fusing Gypsy, Classical and Folk violin with electronic music such as Dubstep and Triphop. The effect is both ethereal and gritty; the dance rhythms and bass combining with the natural sensuality of the violin to create a sound equally suitable for a late night club session or a modern art exhibition.
The music has already enjoyed a certain cult success in the Melbourne arts scene, due in part to the relationship enjoyed with the ABODE fetish club in St Kilda, who were kind enough to provide a lavish venue for photoshoots and a year-long musical residency. During this time there was also a highly successful collaboration with members of a tribal belly-dance group to create a dynamic live show.
Now based in Bristol, UK, Jude The Obskure has enjoyed playing shows in England as well as travelling through Eastern Europe performing for festivals in Lithuania and Latvia. The performance has been described as 'ravishingly skillful', invariably leaving audiences in as much astonishment as if they had been elevated by an ecstatic transport of some divine frenzy.
