I am a pianist, composer and improviser currently based in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England and now receiving increasing interest both in the UK and in the rest of Europe. I have been described by Jazz North East as "now firmly established as the most original improvising pianist in the North East" and also as "a solo improviser of outstanding scope and originality". International Piano Magazine defined my music as "a rare phenomenon" in a review. Biography: Paul Taylor is an accomplished pianist and keyboard player specialising in improvisation. The music is evocative, alluring and unique; combining unusual harmonies and sonorities with an original and fluid technique. He is emerging as one of the most consistently interesting and innovative solo pianists in recent years, eschewing the conventional cliches associated with jazz improvisation in favour of an unorthodox, harmonically complex and often compellingly beautiful musical language that is often inspired by the classical tradition. Nonetheless, his playing also encapsulates the restless capacity for invention that is a cornerstone of jazz. Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: Performance space of at least 4m by 4m. If electric: decent PA System with mixing desk and speakers, or otherwise a good quality keyboard amp. Minimum of two power sockets within reach of keyboard power supply. If acoustic: Good quality, well-maintained and recently professionally-tuned acoustic piano. Outdoors performances must be provided with sufficient shelter for the equipment and performer.
