The Runaways were formed in 1982 with Tim Adams on rhythm guitar and vocals Gary Bryant (GB) on lead guitar and then Ivan Thurlow on drums and vocals and still 41 years on with the 'new' member Cliff Skinner playing on bass guitar and vocals completes The Runaways line up respectively. Since they started, The Runaways have been committed to producing a quality performance and are particularly renowned for their authentic representation of music from The Shadows, including the choreography! In the 1980’s and 90’s the Runaways worked alongside famous names in the world of entertainment and as the backing band to original singing stars of the fifties and sixties. They also appeared as special guests on BBC radio and have made appearances on London Weekend Television and Sky TV. Most recently on BBC radio Essex and the James Whale web based radio show. After receiving excellent reviews in various magazines, The Runaways signed a record deal with Polydor to release a CD in Japan. They have since recorded albums for Sweden and in Europe and their music is distributed to other countries. The Runaways' album "Into the Vortex" is still available and is being sold at the venues where the guys play and can be purchased on www.bandcamp.com either as single tracks or you can buy the whole album! The album consists of well-known tunes and vocal numbers played in an instrumental Shadowsesque style! The Runaways continue to produce the highest quality sound and still rehearse routinely to perfect regular numbers and learn new ones to extend their repertoire. They also pay attention to the visual aspects of their performances and are always immaculate in their smart suits and memorable for their striking bright red guitars and those famous ‘walks’! Audiences are constantly amazed by the range of sounds the band produces using guitar synthesizers and find it hard to believe that performances are completely live without the use of backing tracks as they switch effortlessly from the sound of the clarinet for Stranger on the Shore, through to the harmonica for Love Me Do to a piano in NutRocker for example! Despite having worked with members of The Shadows and being renowned for the authenticity of their production of Shadows' numbers, The Runaways are far more than a Shadows tribute band. With the vast experience and individual talents of each member and their extensive repertoire of vocal and instrumental numbers, The Runaways produce a performance tailored to each venue/event and often receive standing ovations and unending demands for encores! They will have you rocking in the aisles for sure, go see The Runaways more than just a tribute!

What to expect

Audiences are constantly amazed by the range of sounds the band produces using guitar synthesizers and find it hard to believe that performances are completely live without the use of backing tracks as they switch effortlessly from the sound of the clarinet for Stranger on the Shore, through to the accordion for Sea of Heartbreak to piano in Nut Rocker, or a 12 string guitar for a Searchers classic! Classic vocal rock n roll and 50's 60's pop classics to get everyone up on the dance floor! With postcard humour comedy and of course to end the night with a drum solo and the classic Apache and FBI for encores!

Q: How long does setup take? A: We usually take around an hour and a bit to set up soundcheck and get out the way so you can arrange yourselves. If required we can have background music whilst we are off the stage area and we have our own band play on.
Q: What are your space and power requirements? A: If we can have enough room for a live 4 piece band, a local power point, close car parking and a room to change into our stage suits too please.
Q: Do you take requests? A: We are able to take requests but we really like to stick to the solid set we have. We have over 40 years experience I'm sure we have played it before or heard it enough to 'give it a go' but its not really ideal.
