I have been playing as a solo pianist for 12 years - offering musical sensitivity and friendly, professional advice to clients.
I aim to provide a varied and lively performance, with something for everyone.
My repertoire is unusually wide for a solo pianist - I grew up playing baroque and classical music but have now built up a large jazz repertoire. I love writing my own arrangements of popular songs, such as the Beatles or Disney.
I am also an experienced accompanist, especially for wedding ceremonies,. I am currently the principal pianist for the Oxford Gospel Choir, Oxford Welsh MVC, and an organist at St Mary's, Iffley. I regularly accompany jazz singers.
As a solo pianist and in various groups, venues I have performed at include: St George’s Hall (Liverpool), The Old Vic, The Union Chapel, The Spitz (London), Birmingham Academy, Preston Guild Hall, the Holywell Music Room, the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building (Oxford), Blenheim Palace, Kirtlington Park, Kingston Bagpuize House.
I love creating and responding to atmosphere, and adjust my playing style and set list to suit the needs of the moment.
WEDDINGS AND CIVIL CEREMONIES:
* Music as the guests arrive
* Music for the big moments, such as the processional and the recessional
* Music during the signing of the register
* I am happy to advise couples on musical choices
* Couples sometimes have a musical family member or friend that they would like to have perform a piece during the ceremony. I am happy to accompany and this is often the most enjoyable part of my job! I can turn up slightly early for a quick run through, and/or email them a recording of the accompaniment in advance.
* In some cases, I can play a church's organ for hymns or other pieces. Please enquire - it will depend on the church's policy and the design of the instrument.
RECEPTIONS, PARTIES, OTHER EVENTS:
* A varied and lively performance, with something for everyone
* The style(s) of music are agreed with the client in advance. - usually classical, pop and jazz, or a free-flowing mixture
* I arrive at least 1 hr before any performance, to ensure that everything is set up perfectly and that I have a moment to refocus on musical performance
* I use a Yamaha digital stage piano and bring additional amplification in case it is needed
* If a venue has its own piano, I will check with them in advance that it is in tune and in good working order
* For longer performances, such as a during a dinner, I will take 10 mins break in every hour to help maintain performance quality
* For outdoor events, I will place amplification outside. I can place the piano outside too, if there is a spot reasonably sheltered from the breeze
